House Painting Cost in Lubbock, TX: Interior and Exterior Prices (2026)
What house painting costs in Lubbock in 2026: rooms and whole interiors, cabinets, brick trim and full exterior repaints, what zero-VOC really means, and how sun, wind, and hail shorten paint life here.

Most house painting in Lubbock costs $1 to $3 per square foot of wall for interiors and $1.50 to $4 per square foot of siding for exteriors in 2026. A bedroom runs $300 to $700 for walls only, a full 2,000 square foot interior with ceilings, trim, and doors runs $5,500 to $11,000, and a full exterior repaint on a siding or stucco home runs $2,500 to $12,000. The most common Lubbock exterior job is smaller: on a brick home, painting the eaves, trim, doors, and garage door usually costs $1,500 to $4,500. Sun, wind, and dust shorten paint life here, so prep and product matter as much as price.

What House Painting Costs in Lubbock (2026)
These are 2026 Lubbock-market prices for professional work: two coats of quality paint, normal prep, and cleanup. Labor is roughly 70 to 85 percent of a typical paint job, and Lubbock labor runs below Dallas, Austin, and Houston rates, which keeps local prices in the lower half of national ranges. Prep, access, and paint quality move the number most.
- Interior walls
- $1 to $3 per sq ft of wall
- Exterior siding
- $1.50 to $4 per sq ft
- Brick home trim repaint
- $1,500 to $4,500
| Project | Typical 2026 Lubbock cost | What it usually includes |
|---|---|---|
| Bedroom, walls only | $300 to $700 | Two coats, light patching, one color |
| Bedroom, walls, ceiling, and trim | $550 to $1,200 | Adds ceiling, baseboards, door, and casing |
| Whole interior, 2,000 sq ft home | $5,500 to $11,000 | Walls, ceilings, trim, and doors; walls only $3,000 to $6,000 |
| Kitchen cabinets | $2,500 to $6,500 | Clean, sand, prime, and spray doors, drawers, and boxes |
| Brick home exterior, trim only | $1,500 to $4,500 | Eaves, fascia, soffit, doors, garage door, caulk |
| Full exterior, siding or stucco | $2,500 to $12,000 | Single-story at the low end, two-story at the top |
Interior Painting: Per Room, Per Square Foot, and Whole House
Painters quote interiors three ways, and mixing them up is the most common reason two bids look far apart. Per square foot of wall surface, walls-only work runs $1 to $3. Per square foot of floor area, a whole-house figure that folds in ceilings, trim, and doors runs roughly $3 to $5.50. Per room is how most homeowners think, with add-ons priced separately:
- Ceilings: $1 to $2 per square foot, or $100 to $300 for a bedroom; textured ceilings run $1 to $3.50, and older ones should be tested for asbestos before scraping.
- Baseboards and trim: $1 to $4 per linear foot, roughly $500 to $2,000 for a whole house.
- Interior doors: $75 to $175 each, both sides plus casing.
- Accent walls and extra colors: often 20 to 30 percent more for the room.
- Ceilings over 10 feet: 10 to 50 percent more for the added wall area and equipment.
- Minimums: many painters charge $250 to $500, so one small room costs more per foot than five.
Cabinet Painting Cost
Painting kitchen cabinets runs $2,500 to $6,500 for most Lubbock kitchens in 2026, about $30 to $70 per linear foot of cabinetry or $70 to $125 per door. Vanities and small kitchens start near $1,000, and large kitchens with islands can pass $8,000. Nearly all of it is labor: degreasing, sanding, priming, and spraying doors and drawer fronts, then the boxes in place. Paint makers commonly say to wait about two weeks before washing a fresh finish, so go easy on new doors at first. Painting makes sense when the boxes are solid and the layout works; refacing runs $7,000 to $12,000, and our kitchen remodel cost guide covers when replacement wins.
Exterior Painting: Brick Homes, Siding, Stucco, and Fences
Many Lubbock homes are brick veneer with the brick left unpainted, so an exterior paint job often means everything but the walls: fascia, soffits, trim, gable siding, doors, and the garage door. Eaves run about $4 to $14 per linear foot for fascia and soffit together, and a typical single-story home has roughly 180 to 260 feet of them. Add $110 to $225 per exterior door and $200 to $500 for a two-car garage door, and most trim-only repaints land at $1,500 to $4,500 with caulking and prep.
Siding and stucco repaints are priced by paintable area, typically $1.50 to $4 per square foot. An elastomeric stucco coating that bridges hairline cracks adds roughly $900 to $2,000 on an average home, worth considering on a slab that moves, though it breathes less than standard acrylic. On vinyl siding, one major paint maker warns against going darker than the original color unless the shade is rated for vinyl, because dark colors can absorb enough heat to warp it.
Staining or painting a 6-foot wood privacy fence runs about $4 to $9 per linear foot, or $800 to $1,800 for a 200-foot backyard run.
| Exterior project | Typical 2026 Lubbock cost | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Brick home, trim only | $1,500 to $4,500 | Eaves, trim, doors, garage door, caulk |
| Single-story, up to 1,800 sq ft | $2,500 to $6,000 | Siding or stucco walls plus trim |
| Single-story, 1,800 to 2,500 sq ft | $3,500 to $8,000 | More wall area and gables |
| Two-story home | $5,000 to $12,000+ | Ladders, lifts, and more labor |
| 6-foot wood privacy fence, 200 ft | $800 to $1,800 | Stain wears away instead of peeling |
What Drives the Price: Prep, Access, and Color
Two bids on the same house can differ by thousands because of what happens before the first coat:
- Prep: washing, scraping, sanding, patching, caulking, and spot-priming. Pressure washing runs about $200 to $400 when it is not included.
- Drywall damage: slab-movement cracks, nail pops, and old patches need repair before paint, or they show through. Our drywall repair cost guide covers those prices.
- Access: stairwells, vaulted ceilings, and second stories add ladders, lifts, and time; a two-story exterior can cost up to 50 percent more.
- Color changes: dark to light, or light to deep, can add a primer coat and a third coat.
- Sheen: dark colors and higher sheens show every flaw, which is where a Level 5 drywall finish earns its cost.
- Lead: in homes built before 1978, federal EPA rules require any contractor paid to disturb painted surfaces to be certified and use lead-safe practices, which adds time.
Paint Quality and Zero-VOC: What the Labels Mean
Paint is a small share of the bill, typically $20 to $80 a gallon with premium lines at $100 or more. A bedroom takes about two gallons, so even a $40-a-gallon upgrade adds about $80, and better paint usually pays for itself in longevity. Outside, that means a 100 percent acrylic built for UV. Inside, the question most people ask is about VOCs, the solvents that evaporate as paint dries.
Federal EPA rules cap the VOC content of house paint at 250 grams per liter for flat finishes and 380 for nonflat, measured by EPA Method 24. That is a ceiling, not a green standard, and the rule has no zero-VOC category. Low-VOC has no federal definition either, so compare the data sheet against a benchmark like Green Seal's GS-11 limits of 50 for flat and 100 for nonflat. Zero-VOC is a manufacturer claim that the base paint tests at or near 0, and a good zero-VOC line shows that number on its data sheet.
Two catches. Tint can add VOCs back unless the colorant is also zero-VOC, and Green Seal itself allows colorant to add up to 50 grams per liter. And VOC content is not emissions: a paint certified to the California Department of Public Health test, often labeled CDPH emissions certified or GREENGUARD Gold, has been measured for what the dried film releases indoors. For interiors we default to zero-VOC paint as part of our healthy-home work, and whoever you hire, ask which base and colorant will go on your walls.
The Lubbock Factor: Sun, Wind, Dust, and Hail
Paint fails here from the south and west first. Lubbock sits above 3,000 feet under mostly clear skies, and that hard sun breaks down binders and fades pigment fastest on the walls and trim facing it. Wide day-to-night temperature swings flex trim and pull caulk joints apart, and on sun-facing sides caulk usually cracks first, letting water and dust behind the paint. That is why a good repaint budgets real time for re-caulking.
Conditions during the job matter as much as the product. On a 25 to 35 mph spring afternoon, spray overspray drifts onto roofs, cars, and the neighbor's house, and blowing dust sticks to wet paint, so crews brush and roll or wait for a calm morning. Hot, very dry air makes latex set before it levels, leaving lap marks. Temperature limits are on the label: one premium exterior acrylic's data sheet allows 35 to 100 degrees surface temperature, others need at least 50, and a west wall in August afternoon sun can pass the upper limit, so crews follow the shade.
Hail, which peaks April through June, dents aluminum gutters, garage door panels, and metal trim wraps and chips paint off wood trim. Paint does not remove a dent, so document recent damage for your insurance claim before anyone paints over it, and budget $100 to $300 for garage door dent repair if you pay out of pocket. Our hail damage checklist covers what to photograph.

How Long Paint Lasts Here, and When to Paint
Exterior paint is generally expected to last 5 to 10 years. In Lubbock, a quality 100 percent acrylic typically gives 7 to 10 years on shaded and north-facing sides and 5 to 7 on south and west faces, budget paint can fail in 3 to 5, and sun-baked fascia and trim usually need touch-up first.
Fall is the best exterior season here: late September through October usually brings lighter wind, moderate temperatures, and the spring hail season is behind you. Spring fights wind and dust, summer means early starts and chasing shade, and winter works on mild days above the paint's minimum. Interiors work year-round and are often easier to schedule in fall and winter. Painting needs no City of Lubbock building permit, since the city code lists it as exempt finish work, but check HOA color rules in newer subdivisions. Typical timelines:
- One room: one to two days.
- Whole-house interior: five to ten days.
- Brick home trim repaint: two to four days.
- Full exterior: four to seven days, plus weather delays.
- Cabinets: five to eight days, plus cure time.
How to Get an Accurate Painting Quote
Painting bids are only comparable when they describe the same job. Ask each painter for:
- A written scope by surface, inside and out, with the prep spelled out.
- The product line, sheen, and number of coats for each surface, plus the colorant if VOCs matter to you.
- How repairs are priced: drywall cracks, rotted trim, and hail-dented metal.
- Their plan for Lubbock conditions: when they spray versus brush, what they do on windy days, and the temperature limits they follow.
- Lead-safe certification if your home was built before 1978.

This guide was researched and published by Nextgen Blueprint, a Lubbock design-build contractor whose painting crews handle interiors, exteriors, and cabinets, and who fix the drywall first when the walls need it. Treat the numbers here as 2026 Lubbock-market budgeting ranges, not a quote, since your real price depends on the surfaces, their condition, access, and the products you choose.
